Hey friends... As you all know, I've been taking ride by bus to go back home from school since err.... last year or errr.... last two years. ok. That doesn't matters o lot. Since Rapid Penang has been established, it has been a favourite expecially for senior citizens and school childrens because of the cheap fair that is RM0.50 for the first 7 KM. It has recently increased it price to RM0.70 for the first 7KM. It is still cheap but since that it is a subsidised company, why should they increase the price? Yes. I admited that Rapid Penang is the fastest bus to get to a destination follow to the schedule, but the fare has made a doubt to the public. UTC(without air-cond)has increased its prise by RM0.10 while Rapid has increased RM0.20 and guess what??? CitiLiner has not increase. It is still RM0.50 for students and senior citizens for the first 7KM route. I had also noticed that lesser people would opt for Rapid anymore. Unlike last time, I am willing to wait for Rapid bus even though I have to wait for another half an hour or one. The increase had definately slower down the business. The increase in Rapid is still considerable because it's with air-condition but UTC is witout and the condition of the bus is err...
The following is the new fare for Rapid Penang.
RM0.94/first 2 kilometer (km) and RM0.94/for every subsequent kilometer.
This implies that for the first 7 kilometer bus journey, the chargeable fare would be RM1.40 (minimum bus fare) compared to the present RM1.00.
7.01 kilometer – 14.00 kilometer, RM2.00
14.01 kilometer – 21.00 kilometer,RM2.70
21.01 kilometer – 28.00 kilometer, RM3.40
28.01 kilometer and beyond that, RM4.00
Senior Citizens aged 60 and above/ OKU /students in full uniformed and complete uniformed body/unit attire
For the first 7 kilometer = RM0.70
distance of 7.01 kilometer – 14.00 kilometer, RM1.00
14.01 kilometer – 21.00 kilometer, RM1.40
21.00 kilometer – 28.00 kilometer, RM1.70
28.01 kilometer and beyond, RM2.00
There was a few times where I saw some bus drivers had been rude to the passenger(s). Once I saw the bus driver ordered an old man to get down from the bus because he forgotten to bring his senior citizen's pass. It was like, anyone also will know that he is a senior citizen by the look of his face. The driver should ask for that man's IC for confirmation. Some drivers even open the door and talk to the driver next to the bus during the stop at traffic light. In the bus, expecially Rapid, there is a notice stating that the passengers should not talk to the driver unless something important. I had noticed that some of the on-duty officers on the bus keeps on talking to the driver and the driver had forgotten about his duty. The driver did not stop for the passenger although the passenger has rung the bell. There was a few times the drivers was busy talking on the phone.
A few months back, when I was on my way back home, as usual, I would wait for bus at the bus stop nearby. On the bus everything was fine unless that the driver was not a friendly driver. After a few stops, an Indian man came up. Suddenly I heard a loud voice from the front. Anxiously, I looked forward as I was not aware of what is going on. The Indian bus driver was shouting at that Indian man. After that, the driver's mood went from bad to worst. He doesn't care of almost everything. He did not stop for passenger to board. He didn't even stop for the passenger that rung the bell. A few passengers that was unhappy with the situation scolded that bus driver. Some of them even threated to lodge a complain to the authority. Me too was unhappy with the situation. How can he be a driver with such temper. No matter what the customer demand is, he must try to fulfill. If he can't he can just explain to them. He should not shout at customer even though the customer is wrong. Customer is always right...
Penangnites, if you are staying on the island, it is easier because there is many busses there and the most important is there is FREE SHUTTLE service. Here is the route for the free shuttle bus
The Central Area Transit Shuttle Bus starts at the bus stop No.1 at Weld Quay. From there, it goes along Weld Quay, making one stop at the Ferry Bus Terminal. Then it continues and turns right at Chulia Street Ghaut. At the next junction, it turns right into Victoria Street. At the end of Victoria Street, it turns left into China Street Ghaut. At the next junction, it turns right into Beach Street (Lebuh Pantai). There are two bus stops at Beach Street, in front of OCBC and in front of Standard Chartered. From Beach Street, the Central Area Transit Shuttle Bus continues into Light Street, turning left at the roundabout. From Light Street, it turns left into Pitt Street (Jalan Masjid Kapitan Keling), then right into Farquhar Street, at the Penang Supreme Court. Bus stop No. 6 is in front of the Penang Museum. From Farquhar Street, it continues into Jalan Sultan Ahmad Shah (Northam Road) and then turns left into Penang Road. It goes along Penang Road until the junction with Jalan Dr Lim Chwee Leong (Prangin Road), where it turns left. Next, it makes a right turn at Jalan Ria to enter Komtar. It stops at the Komtar Bus Terminal, and then exits Komtar, turning right at Magazine Road. From Magazine Road, the Central Area Transit Shuttle Bus turns right into Penang Road again, where there's a stop in front of Ong Kongsi. From there, it continues along Penang Road and turn turns left into Burmah Road, and then right again at Transfer Road. At the next traffic lights, the bus turns right into Hutton Lane. At the end of Hutton Lane, it turns right into Penang Road once more time, continues along Penang Road and then turns left into Jalan Dr Lim Chwee Leong again. Next, the bus turns left and enters Carnarvon Street. It goes along Carnarvon Street until the junction with Kampung Kaka, where it turns right. It goes along Kampung Kaka, and into Kampung Kolam, where it makes a stop. From Kampung Kolam, it enters Pitt Street. At St George's Church, it turns left into Farquhar Street again, and then makes a right turn into Light Street. It goes along Light Street until the roundabout, and then turns into Beach Street. Following that, it turns left at the next junction into Downing Street. The bus makes a final stop at Downing Street before reentering Weld Quay to restart the journey.
It really helps expecially for those poor people. Besides, these free services can attract more tourist to opt for public transport. Compliment for Rapid Penang.. * claps*. Public transport is meant to give an easy yet cheap ride to the public. They should not increase the price expecially now as the economy condition is bad. This can discourage people from taking public transport.
OKOK. The good news for myself is, I am F5 this year and after this I don't have to depend on those sevices already as i can either "tumpang" my friends or I can "tumpang" myself. hahax... Kla.... I've mumbled enough today. Got to go.... Byez... All the best for ALL!!!! * expecially my fellow friends who is taking trial now.*
